Introduction and Goals - Mutations in Taste
Although taste sensations are part of a complex ingestive system, the underlying neural substrates for taste are fairly well characterized and experimentally accessible, and deviants with mutations in the gustatory system can be detected using relatively simple assays. Thus, mice with novel mutations affecting taste are of interest for determining their role not only in the gustatory system but also in more complex behaviors.
