Introduction and Goals - Mutations with Hearing Impairment
We plan to identify and characterize new mouse mutations that will advance our understanding of the genetic basis of hearing impairment.
To do this we will perform a high-throughput primary screens of all G3 mice for the acoustic startle response (ASR) and a smaller number of mice will be screened using the auditory brainstem response (ABR), a complementary but more invasive test.
Once mutants are proven heritable a more in-depth characterization will be provided by conducting ABR on acoustic startle mutants, and by a detailed investigation of ear morphology.
