   Domain(s): Visible Mutants ; Movement/Neuromuscular Function
Phenotype Description
This phenotype is visible at approximately 11 weeks of age (mean 10.7+/- 0.96 weeks; n=15), although subtle changes, such as walking on hind toes, slight swaying from side to side, can be observed earlier. The hind feet of the mutants are splayed apart, and become progressively weaker, the body sways so the animal loses balance and falls over. The mutants move forward with staggering motions, often accompanied by body swaying from side to side. Males and females breed, however, following progression of the impairment, females may have difficulties taking care of litters.   (View video)
Pathology Report
Standard pathology work-up on three mutants (84 -138 days of age) revealed severe loss of granule cells.

Comments
Please note: 1- The majority of frozen NMF embryos is obtained through matings between homozygous (or heterozygous) mutant males and wild-type females; if recovery of mutants is requested, the mice will be shipped as soon as possible following wean without further phenotype or genotype testing. NMF embryos are supplied subject to the General Terms and Conditions of Sale posted at www.jaxmice.jax.org. For prices or further information, please inquire at srp@jax.org or nmf-mice@jax.org.; 2- this mutant mouse line is derived from embryonic stem cells treated with ethylmethanesulfonate (EMS); 3- (12) NMF291 have been requested by and distributed to 3 investigators.
